It is with some regret, and not great regret that Cult Cross 2011 has been canceled. Unfortunately, I have run out of promoter gas this year and have way to much to deal with to pull this off in 2011. Thank you to all of the supporters during the first three years. There area a lot of reasons built in to this decision but it's just a little too much on my plate at this time, and it's hard to run a race solo, so it's time for a break.

I just returned from the venue, the course is complete, and there are pre-riders out there checking it out. I was able to ride a couple of laps today, the course is tacky-dry and in PERFECT racing shape. There is a hose on the back side of the Arena Building should you need to wash your bikes out there today and tomorrow. We got a nice write up in CX Magazine online as well. Thanks Andrew Yee. See you all out there tomorrow, it's gonna be a blast.

The good old days of Eagle Cyclocross, will they return Saturday?

The beauty of CX is the course combined with killer conditions. Saturday is now shaping up perfectly for race day, and unlike the Koppenburg which will probably be cancelled AGAIN this weekend, Cult Cross WILL NOT BE CANCELLED, if anything, it is setting up to be as good as it gets for CX racing conditions with plenty of moisture tonight and Thursday and sunny and fifteis on Saturday. And thanks to the Eagle County Fairgrounds, we've got an amzing course where we do not have to worry about ruining grass or pissing off the stuffy nieghborhood folk. This is CX, real CX, and you will suffer in the spring as you do in the fall. I'll have a wash station set up just like last year and you may believe you are in Hoogerheide by days end.

The course has been 95% flagged, it's a little difficult to "connect" some of the sections right now, but there are a enough riders who know the course to hopefully start beating a bead into the course. There WILL be some minor changes to the current layout once I start staking and taping on Thursday, but for the most part it's laid out without the barriers or the start section. The course next to the parking lot has not been marked as of yet, I'll work on that tomorrow. Go ride it, it's a goodin.

A CATEGORY FOR EVERY PARTICIPANT

Here's the breakdown of the categories for the 2010 CultCross race. Juniors/Kids will be all ages of riders under 16 years of age, both guys and gals. These racers will also be allowed to race in any other category race they would like to participate in.

"C" Category is primarily for entry level racers, first timers and people who are looking to get some experience racing CX who may have dabbled in other disciplines such as Mountain Biking or road racing who are looking to have fun as well as race.

"B" Category is for the next level racer, consider it a "sport" level or a spot for those of you who did not wish to get flogged by the top level riders that will be there.

"A" Category is for the elite racers and those that would like to see where they stand against the fastest riders that show up. THIS IS NOT AN ACA SANCTIONED RACE, so emphasis on FUN is number one with racing hard the next priority. MANY of the people who have raced every year made Cult Cross their first CX experience and they come back because it is a FUN event that welcomes everyone equally, which means YOU.

Of course SingleSpeed is for people who enjoy suffering in the Spring even more. You can race in as many races as you like. See you on April 3rd.

T-shirts will be available for $15 and I've got a half dozen hoodies that will be $35, unless there is feedback to make more, then I will do that.

Ok kids, here is the rough cut of the new logo, very similar to the old as I think the logo should remain "traditional" over the years. I did however slightly change the font and added the "2010" to the skull, which will actually be white on the final T-shirt. In addition, this top logo, which is the back of the shirt, will have all black background with white lettering like the original T. I've also got VERY limited numbers of hoodies which will be $35. The T's ended up costing me a but more than I originally hoped because I'm having them made locally and this required set up fees. They will be available race day or even sooner. Hope you dig em, I sold out of the first run two years ago FAST.

I walked the venue today, erased my visions of the past, and came up with a new picture, which is going to be big fun and suffering once again like only a classic cult Cross course can bring, not to mention new T-shirts which are currently in the works. With April 3rd just over a month away it';s time for a quick update on changes that will take place at the 2010 CultCross race with regards to Category changes. Since CultCross is no longer affiliated with the ACA I am going to a more lax "flight" system but will still have SS and Junior races. Three flights will be available for racers eliminating age classifications. There will be A,B and C flights for men and women. This hopefully will keep things even more grassroots and keep everything fun for everyone, plus you will get to line it up against people you might not normally get to race against in the more "structured" age classification format. Race entry will still be $20 and $10 for a second race. Juniors will be 16 and under and we will race for 30 minutes (or longer if they should choose). The third installment of CultCross should be another good time and I hope to see you all there! I'm trying to come up with some new course ideas, but I think courses of the past have been pretty rock solid according to your feedback, so look for more of the same with a tweak or two.

WHY CULT CROSS IS NOT ON THE ACA CALENDER, BUT THE RACE IS ON!

For those of you planning on racing Cult Cross 2010, the race is ON. The reason you do not see it on the ACA Calender is because the ACA is just too difficult for a grassroots race like Cult Cross to deal with. By the time I pay all their fee's, join the clubs, pay for officials, pay for insurance, etc, the race just ends up being a pile of work for free. Hence, Cult Cross will be run independent of any sanctioning body this year under an independent insurance carrier. Stay tuned here for start times and other details, but we are on for April 3rd. The biggest problem for me with the ACA was that I asked for six dates to do two races, the fact that I do not want to travel to Denver due to work and other restraints puts me behind the 8 ball and the ACA will not sanction competing races on the same day even though I am 2.5 hours away from the front range. Promoters are cannabalizing one another every weekend for dates of events, and Cult Cross really has no weight as it makes very little money for the ACA. I'm about having fun at a fun event and keeping it affordable, I can not do this through the ACA.

A BRIEF RECAP OF RACE 1....

Race 1 of Cult Cross 2009 had great support from racers and fans yesterday as the sun and spring temps had the course in near perf condition. The course went from frozen and a little lumpy in the morning, to slick in the corners and muddy through the middle of the race schedule and then tacky and super fast for the late races. We had a great vibe at the Eagle Fairgrounds. I tried to create a course that had a little bit for every type of racer. There were plenty of power sections, but also quite a few areas where speed had to be shut down for techy cornering before needing to power back up. Racers seemed to dig the course and the few that were able to ride to victory in their individual categories were as follows...

Men's Open

Chad Melis (Spot Brand) threw an impressive effort on day one and looked to be in mid season form as he basically blew the doors off the open field which included Darrin Cheek who finished 2nd, Brian Hutchison (Subaru-Vista) who earlier won the SS race, Bruce Hodgkins and Ryan McFarling (Mafia/PBR)

Women's Open
Lindsey Bishop (Mafia/PBR) dominated the women's open field as she put the hammer down from the start and was chased however futily by Megan Taylor riding for CoMotion Sports. Linda Wells finished third.

Men's 3's

This race was controlled at the front by Maifa/PBR racing with Courtney Gregory and Eric Hanzel leaving the pack, working together, and then sprinting for the line with Gregory taking the win. It was his first race back after jacking his thumb skiing this winter. Third went to Robert Vettch racing for Beaver Creek

Men's 4's

Andrew Wagner took the win in 4's race with Michael Scott finishing second. Paul Gorbold riding for Pedal Power fished third in what I believe was his first CX race. Welcome to the CX pain house Paul.

Brian Hutchison of Subaru/Vista showed his stuff once again as the current Colorado State Single Speed CX Champion picked up where he left off last fall with a dominating victory catching all but one 35+ rider who started one minute in front of him. Greg Dalton was second with Matthew Pronovost, Moots Guy, finishing third.

35+

David Overstreet, racing for Spike Shooter absolutely killed it in the Men's 35 race. He jumped out front early on lap one and was never seen again. Matt Johnson finished second with David Burns(Mountain Pedaler) who was sporting his Cult Cross T-shirt, as usual, was third.

45+

Charlie Brown, shop owner of the Mountain Pedaler in Eagle where the post series gathering will be next Sunday beat out a very game Brian Dunn who was racing for the Great Divide Brewery team. Charlie wore Brian down with about two to go and pulled away for the win

65+

The ageless one Loren Hettinger showed and throwed and finshed with a smile at 68 years young, just an amazing athlete at his age, I mean cmon, CX at 68! I love it.

Women's 4's

Tara Picklo (Yeti's Grind) won the 4's race with Sue Bardsley finishing second

Juniors

The juniors race was clearly dominated by Ian McPherson (Flat Iron Flyers) followed by Maxx Chance and Aydon Chance also riding for the Flyers

This should answer most questions guys and gals. I'm heading to Fla. for a week and will be getting started on course design and probably a bit of shoveling when I get home. Things look very good for the time being with MUCH less snow on course. It's gonna be a new course design for race #1, however, I will try and incorporate some type of "Abominable Snowrun" for your suffering pleasure, Cult Cross style once again, but the idea is to keep it shorter (much) than last years as pictured in the header. Stay tuned for more info as it comes. We (Mafia and myself) are trying to create as big a race feel as we can for the series. Subaru and Go Fast are both talking about being there with their "rigs" and of course Mafia will have their trailer and shwag as well...which means lots of PBR. I of course will be stocked with SQUIRT LUBE handouts for many!

I and the rest of the partcipants encourage you to come and enjoy Cult Cross 2009. One of the most satisfying accomplishments of last years series was the number of first time racers who showed up, and were immedaitely hooked on the vibe of Cyclocross, bring your familys and friends, race the "first timers" race free, and then jump in another cat later if you enjoy it, you will.

Also, the
truth or dare" bridges will be made a bit wider this year, last year was little on the "edge" (all though everyone rode them awesome!) and I want it SAFE and FUN for everyone. Or should we leave them the same? Comments welcome.

A pretty large blow to the Cult Cross 2009 series today as our largest sponsor from last year Maxxis Tires has pulled out. In a "bummer" type vibe e-mail from Ben Burgess at Maxxis, he announced that they will not be able to support grass roots events such as Cult Cross this year as their budgets and work force have been dramatically cut back like everyone else's this year. What does this mean for you? It means you come race your ass off, have fun, hang out and drink more PBR in the true spirit of Cult Cross 2009. I'll get what shwag I can for you guys, but it's really TOUGH this year all the way around. There WILL however be plenty of SQUIRT Lube to go around and I'll try and get ALL racers who race both races a bottle for your troubles....

Today I had to make the executive decision to do both Cult Cross 2009 races at the Eagle Fairgrounds. The application process on the front range was a bit monstrous to tackle in such a short period of time and I just could not commit to the front range for that reason. The town of Eagle makes it VERY easy to work with them. Boulder's application for special events is 18 pages long...so perhaps next year I can start that process six months ahead of time instead of four and a half weeks. All the same, get your arses up here and experience a great venue at the Eagle Fairgrounds in March!

I was out at the Eagle Faigrounds today assessing the snow situation which if you raced last year you know was DEEP. We've had alot of early snow here this year but the moderate temps have reduced the snowpack down to about 10-12 inches on the course. Last year we had 2-4 feet. It's shaping up to be absolutely perfect for CX conditions, hopefully real soggy and snow free by March 15th and 22nd. I'm still working on a front range venue for the 15th, stay tuned, but Eagle looks like it should be perf by race day. Look for some new course features this year which may include "air or scare" in the form of a gap jump, you know, something CultCross like. Just when you thought CX season was over....

Cult Cross 2009 is moving forward nicely as the race permit has been applied for and I am in discussion with Dave Janawiec of Mafia Racing/PBR to attempt to do one of the races is Denver. We have ALOT of work to pull that off but it is in the works. Race dates are March 15th and 22nd and for now both races are tentatively scheduled for the Eagle Fairgrounds in Eagle, Colorado. This is the same venue as races 1 & 3 last year. More details coming in the near future. We have a tentative commitment from the Voice of Cross Dave Towle that he is planning on attending, which of course is BIG news. Racers who plan on attending are Colorado State SS champion Brian Hutchison, Vitamin Cottage as well as Men's Open State runner-up Jake wells of Mafia Racing. It should be great racing and a big time....and of course there will be bottomless coolers of PBR on hand at each event!

Cult Cross to air on RSN
OnSight Media will have a production crew recording the 2008 Cult Cross races for an RSN Television release in April 2008. A 30-minute program including elite women and men's race highlights will be shown on the RSN Television Network a minimum of 8 times, available throughout Colorado. A DVD will also be produced and made available for sale and an online video series highlighting the races will be created for online viewing.
